Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 will premiere on January 10, 2027 and run for two consecutive cours. The confirmation was published on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 alongside a new season key visual. In Japan, episodes will air Sundays at 5 p.m. across the 28-station MBS/TBS national network.

The announcement confirms an uninterrupted run rather than a season split into separate blocks, but it does not provide an exact episode count. A cour usually corresponds to one quarter of the Japanese broadcast calendar, so two consecutive cours point to a run of roughly half a year. The final length will depend on the production’s schedule.

The competition changes the center of the story

The new season temporarily moves the action away from the world of Shangri-La Frontier and into Galaxia Heroes: Chaos, a virtual-reality fighting game built with the same engine. Sunraku joins the Global Game Competition as a substitute alongside Oicazzo and Pencilgon, challenging the American professional team Star Rain.

This change does not turn the series into a separate story. Instead, the tournament expands an idea established from the beginning: the skills Rakuro Hizutome developed by mastering broken games can transfer to more polished competitive systems. Rather than exploring another fantasy area and hunting unique monsters, the season places those abilities against human opponents, tournament rules and public pressure.

The official website identifies the match against Star Rain as the immediate center of the storyline. An earlier teaser had already shown hero-versus-villain clashes from Galaxia Heroes: Chaos, while the new visual reinforces that focus. The announcement does not specify how far the adaptation will move through the arc across its two cours.

What the production has confirmed

Along with the date and broadcast format, promotional information says studio C2C remains responsible for the animation. The series continues to adapt the manga drawn by Ryosuke Fuji, itself based on Katarina’s web novel originally published through Shosetsuka ni Naro.

The anime’s principal cast includes Yuma Uchida as Sunraku, Yoko Hikasa as Arthur Pencilgon, Makoto Koichi as Oicazzo, Azumi Waki as Psyger-0 and Rina Hidaka as Emul. Wednesday’s announcement did not reveal a major change to the central cast or provide new information about opening and ending themes.

Confirming two cours also preserves the format used by the earlier seasons, which had enough time to develop longer arcs without compressing each stage of Sunraku’s progression. This time, however, the continuous run supports a competitive arc built around another game and a foreign professional team as the main obstacle.

International streaming has not been announced

The September 16 announcement concerns the Japanese broadcast. Although previous seasons received international distribution, the new statement does not confirm platforms, languages or simultaneous dates outside Japan. Any claim about where Season 3 will stream internationally therefore remains dependent on announcements from distributors.
