GTA VI moves pre-load to November 10 and requires up to 212GB
Rockstar detailed different timing for PS5 and Xbox; boxed copies arrive November 12 with a download code but no disc.
R42 / SUMMARY
GTA VI pre-loading begins November 10 and requires up to 212GB, depending on the console. PS5 unlocks at local midnight, while Xbox Series X|S unlocks at midnight GMT. The game launches November 19, and boxed editions include a download code rather than a disc.
KEY POINTS
- Pre-loading has moved forward from November 12 to November 10.
- Installation requires up to 212GB, with the total varying by device.
- PS5 unlocks at local midnight; Xbox Series X|S unlocks at midnight GMT.
- Boxed editions contain a download code and do not include a disc.
- GTA VI launches November 19; a PC version has not been confirmed.
Rockstar Games confirmed on November 3 that Grand Theft Auto VI pre-loading will begin on November 10, nine days before the game launches for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The installation will require up to 212GB of available storage, depending on the device.
The new schedule moves the pre-load two days earlier than the date given when pre-orders were announced in June. At that time, the company planned to unlock advance downloads on November 12. The change provides more time to download the game but does not alter its November 19, 2026 release date.
PS5 and Xbox will use different start times
On PlayStation 5, pre-loading will unlock at midnight on November 10 in each region's local time. Availability will therefore move across the world as individual countries enter the new date. On Xbox Series X|S, the download will unlock simultaneously worldwide at midnight Greenwich Mean Time.
Converted to Brasília time, the global Xbox start corresponds to 9 p.m. on November 9. That is a time-zone conversion of Rockstar's published schedule, not a separate Brazilian timetable announced by the company. Brazilian PS5 users are instructed to wait for local midnight on November 10.
Pre-loading is available to players who own an eligible digital copy or redeem the code included with a boxed edition. Downloading the files early does not grant early access: Rockstar says the game unlocks at local midnight on November 19. The staggered time-zone rollout also means some regions will enter the game before others.
The 212GB figure is a storage requirement, not one universal file size
Rockstar describes the requirement as “up to 212GB,” with the total varying by device. The number should therefore not be treated as an identical download size on every console. Launch updates, installed language, compression and temporary files may affect the storage actually used.
Even with that qualification, the requirement represents a substantial share of a console's internal storage. The practical step is to clear space before November 10 and verify that any expansion drive meets the specifications required by PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation Blog also recommends checking available capacity in advance.
No PC version has been confirmed, and the published schedule covers only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Listings that assign a computer release date, file size or hardware requirements are not official information at this stage.
The boxed edition contains a code, not a disc
Boxed versions for both consoles will begin reaching retailers on November 12, according to Rockstar. Despite the physical packaging, they include a code used to download the game and do not contain a disc. This structure allows buyers to join the pre-load after redeeming the code, but it still requires an internet connection and enough storage for the complete files.
The distinction changes the practical value of a physical edition. It does not operate as an independent copy preserved on optical media and does not reduce the download. It also limits lending or reselling the license after the code has been redeemed. Those consequences are analysis of the format; Rockstar's factual statement is that the box contains a code and no disc.
The company also said it will provide a free printable digital version of the cover art and Leonida map on November 19. A double-sided physical poster will be sold later for $0.99 or included with purchases from the Rockstar Store. No territory-specific price for Brazil has been announced.
What is confirmed for launch
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-loading begins November 10 with different timing by platform and may require up to 212GB. Boxed copies become available November 12 but rely on a download code.
A PC version, the final size on each console model and any additional launch-day updates remain unconfirmed. The schedule reduces the risk of last-minute congestion for players who start early, but download speed and completion time will still depend on each user's connection.
