Blumhouse is developing a film based on Amanda the Adventurer, the independent puzzle-horror series created by MANGLEDmaw Games and published by DreadXP. The project was announced during BlumFest at New York Comic Con 2026, with Matthew “MatPat” Patrick leading development of the adaptation.

MatPat is also among the feature's producers, alongside Jason Blum and Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald. The film's existence and this production arrangement are confirmed facts. However, no director, screenwriter, cast, filming date, distributor, or release window has been announced. There is also no official synopsis establishing whether the film will adapt only the first game or combine material from the full trilogy.

Moving the attic and VHS tapes to film

Originally released in April 2023, Amanda the Adventurer places the player in the role of Riley Park, who finds a collection of VHS tapes in the attic of their late Aunt Kate. The recordings contain an early-2000s children's program starring Amanda and her timid sheep companion, Wooly. Its welcoming surface begins to collapse when the characters respond directly to the viewer and events inside the episodes start affecting the room around the television.

The game combines first-person exploration with escape-room puzzles. Clues hidden inside its 1990s-style CGI cartoons help players open compartments, locate additional tapes, and investigate what happened behind the program. That structure expanded into two sequels. DreadXP describes Amanda the Adventurer 3 as the conclusion of the trilogy, closing the journey involving Riley, Amanda, Aunt Kate, and the mysteries surrounding the Hameln corporation.

This interactive design creates the adaptation's central challenge. The game's unease depends on the audience typing answers, manipulating objects in the attic, and realizing that Amanda appears to react to choices made in front of the screen. A film cannot reproduce those actions in the same way. Its creators will have to convert player participation into visual suspense, character decisions, or another device that involves the audience without reducing the tapes to exposition scenes.

Why MatPat matters to the strategy

MatPat's involvement is more than a celebrity attachment. His work across the Theorist channels was built around analyzing secrets, timelines, and fragmented narratives in games. Amanda the Adventurer belongs to that same ecosystem: a compact experience filled with clues and designed to generate collective discussion about what lies beneath its educational-cartoon appearance.

At BlumFest, the partnership was presented as part of a broader move toward online creators and horror projects that were born or gained momentum on the internet. Working with someone familiar with gaming communities may help the adaptation preserve the layers that sustain interest in the franchise. That is an editorial inference about the choice, not a guarantee from the studio about fidelity or quality.

The announcement also arrives while Hollywood continues to pursue game properties. Rota42 recently reported that Paramount is developing a film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, but the two projects begin at opposite scales. Cyberpunk offers a broad world for a new story, while Amanda the Adventurer relies on confined spaces, hidden clues, and an intimate relationship with the player.

For now, “in development” is the accurate description. The production is confirmed and three producers have been identified, but any further claim about format, plot, rating, or release would be speculation. Decisions about the script and director will show whether Blumhouse intends to reproduce the trilogy's narrative or use its premise as the basis for a new cinematic story.
