Marvel announces Zodiac series for Disney+ in 2028

Marvel Television has announced Zodiac, a live-action spy thriller scheduled to reach Disney+ in 2028. The confirmation came on Thursday, October 8, during the studio’s television and animation panel at New York Comic Con.

The timetable presented by Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television, animation, and comics, calls for filming to begin in London in spring 2027. Casting is expected to start in the coming weeks. The company did not provide a specific premiere date, actors, a creative team, or an episode count.

The title is confirmed, but its identity remains secret

Marvel showed the first Zodiac logo and defined the project as a spy thriller. Winderbaum said comic-book readers could find information hidden in the design, but he did not explain its symbols or identify which characters will be adapted.

That distinction matters because “Zodiac” does not point to a single figure in Marvel’s catalog. The name has been used by criminal organizations modeled on the astrological signs and by an individual villain with a secret identity. Marvel’s own database lists different versions of the group, including the faction known as First Sign. The title alone therefore does not establish whether the organization will be the antagonist, whether the series will follow a character using the name, or whether it will combine elements from several incarnations.

Any specific connection to the Avengers, intelligence agents, or characters associated with S.H.I.E.L.D. remains speculative. The official announcement did not provide a synopsis, a protagonist, or the period in which the story is set.

A production schedule moves the project beyond rumor

Before the panel, reports described Zodiac as a project in development or a possible codename. The NYCC presentation changes the level of certainty: Marvel Television publicly adopted the title, confirmed the genre, named Disney+ as its destination, and set production and release windows.

That does not mean every element is locked. The approaching casting process and filming several months away indicate that the series is still ahead of principal photography. Calendar changes remain possible until Disney+ announces a complete release date.

A new project during a more selective Marvel TV phase

Zodiac arrives as Marvel reduces its live-action television slate. Entertainment Weekly notes that it is the first new Marvel Television project announced after the cancellation of Wonder Man and the decision to conclude Daredevil: Born Again with its third season.

The gap before 2028 also separates Zodiac from the studio’s immediate releases. VisionQuest premieres on October 14, 2026, while other NYCC updates focused on animation and new seasons of existing shows.

For now, the announcement’s factual significance lies less in revealing the story than in establishing that the project exists under a definitive title and production plan. The exact meaning of “Zodiac” will remain the central question until Marvel names the cast, creators, or a synopsis.
