Prime Video released the full trailer for Carrie on September 9, offering the clearest look yet at Mike Flanagan’s miniseries based on Stephen King’s novel. All eight episodes will arrive on the service on October 7, 2026. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, while Samantha Sloyan portrays her mother, Margaret White.

The footage confirms that the production retains recognizable parts of the story: a teenager with telekinetic powers, an oppressive family relationship, violence among classmates, and a prom night where the consequences converge. The series, however, is not being presented as a scene-by-scene recreation of the book or previous films. Its most consequential change is Carrie’s starting point and the way school cruelty spreads through a connected environment.

A Carrie entering the world for the first time

In this version, Carrie has spent her life isolated with her mother and must attend public school after her father’s sudden death. That change alters the nature of the conflict. Instead of focusing only on a student already defined by exclusion, the series puts a curious young woman with no social experience in front of rules that her classmates understand — and exploit against her.

Flanagan told Teen Vogue that he wanted this Carrie to be open, kind, and interested in the world rather than traumatized from her first scene. According to the creator, Howell was selected after more than 1,400 candidates were considered. Stephen King, who serves as an executive producer, approved the casting choice. Those details come from the production team and describe its creative intent; whether the approach works can only be judged once the series is available.

The update also brings social media into Carrie’s public humiliation. That does not replace the physical and psychological violence at the center of the story, but it changes its scale: an incident inside a school can be recorded, replayed, and redistributed. The adaptation is therefore using an ordinary technology to renew an old theme from the book — how difficult it becomes to stop collective cruelty once it turns into entertainment.

Eight episodes change the structure of a familiar story

The 1974 novel has already received several screen adaptations, including Brian De Palma’s 1976 film and the 2013 version. The material difference this time is length. Eight episodes provide room to develop Margaret, Sue Snell, Chris Hargensen, and other characters beyond Carrie’s immediate path.

The trailer points toward that expansion by moving among the mother-daughter conflict, Carrie’s arrival at school, emerging friendships, the discovery of her powers, and the approach of prom. Prime Video’s description says the series will explore the forces that shape Carrie as the story builds toward one decisive night. That is the platform’s stated promise, not proof that every supporting character will receive equal weight.

Flanagan has also said that the events of prom will follow a different route from familiar adaptations. The trailer includes imagery associated with that passage, but it does not explain the sequence of events or the ending. Theories that the original story will occupy only part of the season remain speculation and should not be treated as confirmed information.

The cast combines newcomers and Flanagan collaborators

Alongside Howell and Sloyan, the regular cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Heather Graham, and other actors have recurring roles.

The central news is concrete: there is now a full trailer, a global release date, and a self-contained eight-episode season. The editorial significance lies in how a serialized format can redistribute a familiar tragedy. This new Carrie does not need to conceal the character’s broad fate to generate tension; its wager is that family, school, and the digital circulation of violence can make the path toward it feel newly specific.
