KEY POINTS

  3. 03The game will be available through Game Pass on day one.

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School will launch on November 5, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The PS5 version was confirmed on Tuesday, October 13, while the Xbox and PC editions had been announced previously. The game will also be available through Game Pass at launch, according to information released by publisher iam8bit and developer Coin Crew Games.

November 5 is the clearest new detail. The Steam store page still lists only November 2026, but the PlayStation Blog announcement and Gematsu's report specify the date. The Brazilian Microsoft Store already has a product page, although the accessible copy reviewed for this article does not display a release date.

The campus is no longer just a menu between rooms

The biggest structural change is the move from the first Escape Academy's more linear format to an open, explorable campus. Coin Crew Games describes the setting as one large puzzle, with hidden passages, traps, side quests, and clues placed outside conventional escape rooms. The Humanities Campus and Headmaster's Tower are among the locations detailed in the PS5 announcement.

That does not mean the series is abandoning escape rooms. The campaign will still feature handcrafted challenges, but exploration now connects them. The studio says interactive landmarks, destinations visible before they become accessible, and recurring details such as keyhole-shaped ornaments will reward curiosity.

The most interesting practical consequence is a change in pacing. In the original game, each room worked as a relatively self-contained episode. In the sequel, figuring out where to go and recognizing something seen hours earlier may become part of a solution. That is an editorial inference based on the announced structure: the studio has not shown the full campaign or disclosed the number of rooms and quests.

Co-op remains central, with a no-timer option

The full campaign can be played alone or with one other person, either online or locally in split-screen. The sequel will also include an optional No-Timer Mode. Together, those choices preserve the first game's social focus while lowering two separate barriers: the need to gather in the same room and the pressure to solve puzzles within a time limit.

The story centers on a mystery surrounding the school's founding and will include new teachers alongside returning characters. Doseone is back to compose the soundtrack. Steam currently lists interface and subtitle support in seven languages, but Brazilian Portuguese is not among them, so localization for Brazil is not confirmed by the sources reviewed.

iam8bit says the first Escape Academy was played by more than four million people. That figure is a company statement rather than an independently audited metric, and it should not be read as four million copies sold, particularly because the original was also distributed through subscription services.

What is confirmed and what remains unknown

The confirmed details are the release date, versions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, day-one Game Pass availability, online and local co-op, and the No-Timer Mode. A PC demo is already available on Steam. It contains the opening chapter, campus exploration, and a preview of the new quest system.

Pricing, cross-platform progression, and cross-play have not been detailed in the material reviewed. There is also no confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 version. Any expectation about those features remains speculation. Tuesday's announcement locks in the release window and expands the sequel's reach to PS5, but commercial details and connectivity features are still being held for later updates.
