Isles of Sea and Sky will launch for Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2026. The digital edition of Cicada Games’ puzzle adventure will cost $19.99 on the US eShop. Nintendo’s official listing also confirms an estimated 500 MB file size, Brazilian Portuguese support, and Switch 2 compatibility, without announcing a separate native edition for the newer system.

The release brings to Nintendo’s handheld a game that debuted on PC on May 22, 2024. It remains priced at $19.99 on Steam and carries an overall “Very Positive” user rating: 91% of the 1,549 reviews shown by the store were positive when checked. Metacritic lists a score of 85 for the PC version, based on six critic reviews. Those figures do not guarantee identical technical performance for the port, but they show that the original edition built a solid reception before reaching Switch.

An open puzzle world, not a sequence of rooms

The design starts with block-pushing challenges associated with the Sokoban tradition, but it does not require every solution to be found in a predetermined order. Players explore islands, leave an obstacle behind, and return later, while unlocking powers and meeting characters that change what can be done in the environment. According to Cicada Games’ description, controls rely only on directional movement, an approach intended to make the system readable without removing optional challenges for completion-focused players.

The story follows a castaway who wakes without knowing how he reached the archipelago. Its creation-myth narrative is communicated through images rather than written dialogue. That separates two accessibility questions: the main story does not depend on reading, while menus and interface include Brazilian Portuguese localization, as confirmed by Nintendo’s listing.

What the Switch version confirms

The edition supports one player and TV, handheld, and tabletop modes. The store also lists Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves and Nintendo Account family-group lending. On Switch 2, Nintendo only states that the software is supported and behaves consistently with the Switch version; there is no public promise of higher resolution, frame rate, or faster loading.

The console release fits the game’s structure in a practical way. Because any dead end can be left for later, short sessions and frequent returns should suit portable play. That is an editorial inference from the confirmed design, not an exclusive feature announced by the developer.

The project was crowdfunded when it was still known as Akurra and later adopted its current title. By moving from PC to Switch more than two years after its debut, Cicada Games is expanding the audience without changing the core presented on both storefronts: free-form exploration, connected puzzles, optional secrets, and a visual story. No physical edition or PlayStation and Xbox versions have been announced.
