LEGO One Piece premiered on Netflix on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as a two-part animated special. The production compresses the events of the first two seasons of the live-action adaptation into 65 minutes: Tall Tales From the East Blue runs 32 minutes, while Grand Line, Grand Time runs 33. Both episodes are now available on the service.

The framing keeps the project from being presented as the next chapter of the journey. Usopp tells Tony Tony Chopper how the Straw Hats came together in the East Blue and moved into the Grand Line. Using a narrator known for embellishing his exploits lets the special reorganize familiar events and add the physical comedy associated with LEGO animation without changing the main continuity.

A recap with its own point of view

The first episode follows the crew’s formation and conflicts in the East Blue. The second moves through islands and opponents from the Grand Line, covering the period depicted in the second live-action season. The result is both a recap and an entry point: newcomers receive a condensed version, while returning viewers see the same route filtered through Usopp’s distortions.

That distinction matters because LEGO One Piece does not adapt a later manga arc, replace the anime, or serve as the live-action show’s third season. Netflix has confirmed only these two episodes for this project. The format also addresses a common obstacle around long-running franchises: rather than requiring dozens of earlier installments, the special organizes two seasons into just over an hour.

The main live-action cast returns for the English-language voices. Iñaki Godoy plays Luffy, Emily Rudd is Nami, Mackenyu returns as Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Mikaela Hoover as Chopper. Showrunner Tom Hyndman said working with performers who already knew the characters created room for improvisation during recording. That is the production team’s account, not an objective measure of the finished result.

The production connects the screen and toy line

Chelsea Ker directed both episodes. Hyndman is credited as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while Eiichiro Oda is among the executive producers. The project brings together Netflix, the LEGO Group, publisher Shueisha, and Canadian studio Atomic Cartoons.

The premiere follows the August 1 launch of seven LEGO One Piece sets. Six depict scenes or characters tied to the second live-action season, showing coordination between the animation and the product line, although it does not prove that more episodes are planned. The special may extend the franchise’s reach, but any LEGO-format continuation still requires an official announcement.

The wider One Piece calendar also explains the release window. The live-action adaptation is preparing its third season for 2027, while the television anime ended its 2026 run with episode 1180 and will return in 2027. The special fills part of that gap with an already familiar story, without competing with a new manga reveal or moving beyond the live-action series. Editorially, its role is less about opening a new chapter and more about offering a short account of the journey so far.
