A judge, not a king

The Living Tribunal does not administer a civilization. Its function is evaluating threats to balance between universes and deciding when a reality, power, or entity endangers the Multiverse.

The three faces

Its three faces express components of judgment traditionally associated with equity, necessity, and vengeance. An absent fourth face suggests cosmic judgment cannot be reduced to one individual perspective.

Above universal personifications

Eternity, Infinity, Death, and Oblivion operate as functions of one universe. The Tribunal acts across multiple realities and may judge them. Hierarchy here means jurisdiction and scale, not only who wins a fight.

The judgment of the Gems

After the Gauntlet crisis, the Tribunal concluded that the Gems should not act together. The ruling limited their combined operation until later changes. Cosmic rules could be imposed from outside the set itself.

Limiting is not destroying

It did not need to erase every Gem. It changed the condition under which they cooperated. Authority over cosmic relationships and permissions can be more decisive than raw energy.

Why a wielder is not automatically supreme

The Gauntlet brings someone close to omnipotence within the reality where it functions. The Tribunal represents a superior multiversal order. Their tension depends on jurisdiction, previous rulings, and continuity.

Judgment without human morality

Saving one population is not always its immediate priority. The Tribunal considers balance between realities and consequences individuals cannot perceive. An apparently cruel ruling may preserve much larger structures.

Avatars and manifestations

Like other abstract entities, the Tribunal appears in forms able to interact with lesser beings. Encountering or destroying a manifestation does not automatically resolve the complete multiversal principle.

The MCU situation

Why it concludes this series

The Stones control fundamentals; entities personify functions; the Tribunal decides when those powers threaten the collection of realities. It turns cosmic power into a problem of law and balance.
