Phantom Busters TV anime is set for 2027

Phantom Busters, Neoshoco’s manga serialized in Jump SQ., is getting a television anime in 2027. The adaptation was announced through its official account on September 24, 2026, alongside a celebratory illustration by the creator. The reveal establishes the format and yearly release window, but it does not yet say when the series will premiere, where it will be available or who will produce it.

What has been confirmed about the anime

For now, the verified information is concise: Phantom Busters will be a TV series scheduled for 2027. No animation studio, director, writing team, voice cast, Japanese broadcaster, international platform or release month has been named. That distinction matters because any current claims about production or distribution beyond the official announcement would be speculation.

Neoshoco marked the adaptation with an illustration of the main group and said, in comments carried with the announcement, that the story should become even more fun when animated. That is the creator’s expectation rather than an assessment of finished footage; no trailer or detailed creative presentation accompanied the initial reveal.

From Jump SQ. manga to television

The series began serialization in Jump SQ., Shueisha’s monthly manga magazine, in 2023. VIZ Media, which publishes the title in English, describes Phantom Busters as Neoshoco’s first series released under that name. Its eighth collected volume is scheduled to arrive in Japan on October 2, 2026. ORICON reports that the manga has exceeded 1.4 million copies in circulation, including digital editions.

Its publishing record helps put the adaptation in context. The manga placed second in a 2025 recommendation poll of Japanese bookstore employees and fourth in that year’s ranking of manga readers wanted to see adapted into anime. Those results do not reveal the production’s budget or scale, but they help explain why an adaptation has been announced a little more than three years after serialization began.

A team whose powers are not interchangeable

Set in Kamakura, the story begins when top student Eugene Korekishi, who rejects the existence of ghosts, meets Mogari Shishikuro, an exorcist who can consume spirits even though he cannot see them on his own. They are joined by Kaoru Kanzaki, who can see ghosts, and Kotaro Tamon, who can hear and speak with them. Together, the four students form a school club that handles supernatural incidents while they try to experience ordinary adolescence.

That separation of abilities is the central adaptation challenge to watch. The manga does not present four equivalent fighters: information, communication and exorcism are distributed among different characters. Animation can use editing, sound, performance and timing to make those dependencies clearer, or it could flatten some of the comedy created by each character’s limitations. That is an editorial inference, not a promise from the production committee.

What remains unknown

Future announcements will need to identify the production team, clarify which material will be adapted and explain how audiences outside Japan can watch the series. Until those details arrive through official channels, only the television format, the 2027 window and the source manga by Neoshoco should be treated as confirmed.
