Pokémon UNITE will shut down in March 2027 and retain a records library
The MOBA will stop accepting logins and battles, but players who download the data in time will retain access to achievements, items and memories on their device.
R42 / SUMMARY
Pokémon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. A November 12, 2026 update will add a library that continues to display selected items, achievements and records after shutdown if players download the required data before the deadline. The library will not preserve online battles, has limited device-transfer support and will receive no support after service ends.
KEY POINTS
- Service ends on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC on Switch and mobile devices.
- Gem sales, new memberships and automatic renewals stopped on October 27, 2026.
- The library arrives on November 12, 2026 and requires a complete data download before shutdown.
- Preservation is partial: logins and battles end, device transfers are limited and post-shutdown support will not be available.
The Pokémon Company and TiMi Studio Group have announced that Pokémon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. The decision covers the Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android versions. Once the servers shut down, players will no longer be able to log in or join battles, ending the operation of the MOBA that launched on Switch in July 2021 and on mobile devices that September.
The October 27, 2026 announcement does not give a commercial reason for the closure. The companies disclosed no revenue, operating-cost or current-player figures. The shutdown itself is confirmed, while any link to financial performance, declining participation or a change in competitive strategy would be speculation.
Purchases have stopped, but the tournament remains scheduled
Aeos gem sales, new UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals stopped on October 27 at 05:00 UTC. Gems already held in accounts can be used until service ends. Existing members will continue to receive benefits through the end of their current membership period.
The schedule still includes Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo. Qualifiers begin on December 5, 2026, even though the game is set to go offline only a few months later. That contrast turns the event into an organized farewell, but it does not narrow the shutdown: neither casual nor competitive matches will continue after the final deadline.
An update on November 12, 2026, at 04:00 UTC will add missions, special coins, an item exchange and a large shop sale. The event will let players obtain Unite licenses, Holowear, Trainer fashion and other content distributed throughout the game’s lifetime. This is a closing phase, not a reversal of the shutdown decision.
The library preserves a collection, not the complete game
The most unusual part of the plan is the library. Once installed, it will let players enter the Practice Area and inspect acquired content, including Unite licenses, Holowear, Trainer fashion, emblems, items, achievements and tournament participation records. The company also says it is developing a way to revisit memories created with Pokémon.
This feature preserves a personal layer of a server-dependent game: inventories, histories and some visual presentation will not disappear completely when live operations end. The library is not, however, an offline version of Pokémon UNITE. It will not retain logins, matchmaking, battles or the competitive experience. Some elements, including battle items and emblems, will be available only for viewing.
The pre-shutdown download is essential
To keep using the library, players must complete the first download of its required data before March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. Anyone who misses the deadline will not be able to activate the feature afterward. The company also warns that the data generally cannot be transferred when changing devices and that support will end with the service. If the application or local files are deleted or lost, recovery may be impossible.
Those restrictions make the library a partial, user-dependent preservation measure. It offers more continuity than a complete disappearance, but it does not guarantee long-term access on another device or preserve the game as an interactive work. The practical consequence for players is straightforward: update the title from November 12, open the library at least once and confirm that its data package has downloaded before the cutoff.
What remains unknown
The companies have not said whether the library will receive a separately distributed version, whether any later migration procedure will exist or how long the application will remain compatible with future operating-system releases. There is also no announcement of community servers, open-source code or a local battle mode.
The plan represents a middle ground for the end of a live-service game. Pokémon UNITE will not survive in playable form, but personal items and records will receive a local afterlife. The distinction between keeping memories and preserving the complete work will remain central once the servers go dark.
