The expansion is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes franchise veterans. In its Q1 2026 results, CD Projekt said the project was at an advanced stage and framed Geralt’s return as a final adventure before the franchise passes the lead role to Ciri in The Witcher 4. That does not confirm a direct story connection, but it does make the strategic role of the release clear.

At the gamescom Awards 2026, The Witcher 3 won three awards tied to its presence at the show, including Best Trailer / Announcement for the remaster and Songs of the Past material.
