- The game launches on September 24, 2026, for PS5 and PC via Steam.
- Its campaign uses a first-person camera and a 2.35:1 aspect ratio to restrict vision.
- The CRTV locates enemies through frequencies and triggers haptic pulses on DualSense.
- Stealth, hiding, melee combat and environmental clue hunting divide the player's attention.
- An independent review confirms that the CRTV also supports puzzles and stealth sequences.
Silent Hill: Townfall received a detailed systems presentation on Monday, September 21, ahead of its September 24, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The new material shows how developer Screen Burn has turned the first-person camera into part of the exploration, combat and puzzle design rather than treating it as a purely visual change.
The campaign follows Simon Ordell through St. Amelia, a fictional community set in 1996 Scotland. PlayStation describes the title as the first complete Silent Hill experience played entirely through its protagonist's viewpoint. The series previously used first-person sections in Silent Hill 4: The Room and Silent Hill: The Short Message, but not as the foundation of a full campaign.
Restricted vision becomes part of the danger
The camera brings the player closer to doors, corridors and creatures, while also reducing awareness of the surrounding space. The game uses a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, producing a wider image with less vertical area and reinforcing the sense of limited vision. In practice, threats beside or behind Simon may be heard before they are seen.
The map does not pause the action behind a safe interface. Simon raises the paper in front of his face, obscuring part of the environment while the player finds a route. The same principle shapes the search for notes, diagrams and objects hidden inside drawers: inspecting clues advances puzzles but leaves the character exposed. At selected moments, short lines of text appear over the image to convey Simon's internal reaction without relying constantly on spoken narration.
The CRTV updates the series' radio
The central tool is the CRTV, a handheld device that turns a function traditionally associated with Silent Hill's radio into an image. By tuning different frequencies, players can reveal the positions of nearby enemies. On PS5, the device also sends a haptic pulse through the DualSense controller when a new threat is close.
That information does not remove the risk. Players must hold up the CRTV and watch both its screen and the physical environment at the same time. The overlap creates a recurring choice between locating danger and paying attention to the route ahead. An independent PC Gamer review published on the same day says the equipment also supports puzzles and stealth situations; the outlet scored the game 89 and reported roughly 13 hours for its campaign. That figure reflects the reviewer's playthrough, not an officially guaranteed runtime.
Stealth and combat are not interchangeable solutions
The official presentation confirms melee combat with improvised objects, blocks and counterattacks, alongside aiming firearms and thrown items. On PS5, motion aiming can be enabled to adjust direction by tilting the DualSense. Some creatures, however, are not meant to be confronted directly.
During those encounters, Simon can crouch behind fences, signs and parked cars, lean to look around corners and break an enemy's line of sight during a chase. Cabinets and other hiding places provide temporary shelter, but they stop being useful if a creature sees him climb inside. Together, these systems make Townfall a form of horror built around managing information: knowing where a monster is does not mean having the resources to defeat it.
The game launches on the same day as Control Resonant, making the week unusually crowded for supernatural games. Screen Burn's approach retains recognizable series ideas — fog, a reinterpreted radio, ordinary objects used as weapons and psychological horror — while moving much of the tension toward whatever remains outside the player's field of view.
