Cliff Booth gets a David Fincher trailer and a November IMAX release

Netflix released the first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth on Monday, September 21. The film brings Brad Pitt back to the role introduced in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, but moves from 1969 Los Angeles to a changing Hollywood in 1977. David Fincher directs from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino.

The distribution plan has two confirmed stages. The movie begins an exclusive two-week global IMAX run on November 25, 2026, then arrives on Netflix on December 23. The company has not yet published a territory-by-territory list of participating theaters, so local screenings remain unconfirmed.

What the trailer reveals about the new story

The footage finds Cliff eight years after his encounter with members of the Manson family in Tarantino’s alternate version of history. He no longer works only as a stuntman: he earns money as a bartender and projectionist while serving as a fixer for Hollywood figures, sometimes through extralegal methods.

The plot begins to take shape when talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, contacts Cliff on behalf of television star Charlie Peters, played by Scott Caan. The actor’s circle includes Toni, portrayed by Carla Gugino, and Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, a professional football champion turned screen star played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The Verdusco brothers, officially described as gangsters, provide the criminal element that separates this film from the historical fairy-tale structure of its predecessor.

The footage confirms that murder, blackmail, theft, and extortion drive the conflict, but it does not establish how the story will judge its characters or whether it will repeat the revisionist ending of the 2019 movie.

A new director changes the sequel’s perspective

Tarantino remains responsible for the screenplay while handing directing duties to Fincher. The pairing retains the original creator’s written version of the world but places the staging under a filmmaker associated with thrillers built around method, obsession, and investigation. That distinction matters because the new story repositions Cliff: instead of supporting actor Rick Dalton, he becomes the operative connecting stars, intermediaries, and criminals.

The confirmed cast also includes Peter Weller, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. The crew features frequent Fincher collaborators, including cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, production designer Donald Graham Burt, and editor Kirk Baxter. Pitt and Ceán Chaffin are among the producers.

A release arranged in three stages

The exclusive IMAX window, followed by streaming four weeks later, turns the release into a staged event rather than a simultaneous launch. Between those dates, Tarantino’s novelization, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, is scheduled for publication on December 8, according to the Associated Press. Publisher Harper describes the book as the writer’s own prose vision of the story.

The sequence creates three entry points into the project: the large-format theatrical presentation, the literary expansion, and Netflix’s global distribution. It is not yet clear how much the novel will add to the screenplay or whether the versions will differ substantially. What is confirmed is that Cliff Booth’s return is being structured as a continuation with its own identity, rather than a simple replay of the Los Angeles depicted in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.
