Harry Potter casts Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley for Season 2

HBO has confirmed three new cast members for the second season of Harry Potter. Rafe Spall will play Arthur Weasley, Molly Hewitt-Richards is Moaning Myrtle, and Jasper Ambrose will portray Colin Creevey. The characters join the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in the series.

The announcement was made on September 15 and is not a rumor or information attributed to anonymous sources. HBO published all three names, while the official HarryPotter.com site updated its Season 2 cast list. The network has not announced when the season will reach viewers.

The three characters expand different parts of the story

Arthur fills a central position in the Weasley family. Rafe Spall joins Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley and the actors playing Ron, Fred, George, Percy, and Ginny. Mark Williams portrayed Arthur in the films. The new casting also creates an unusual connection to the earlier adaptations: Rafe’s father, Timothy Spall, played Peter Pettigrew in the film series.

Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey broaden the Hogwarts setting in different ways. Myrtle is the bathroom ghost with an important connection to the Chamber of Secrets mystery. Colin is a Gryffindor student fascinated by Harry and photography. Confirming both characters shows that the series is retaining figures closely associated with the second book, but it does not establish how much screen time either will receive.

The additions join several actors already confirmed for the second season. Kit Harington will play Gilderoy Lockhart, Bonnie Hill is Ginny Weasley, Lenny Rush will portray Dobby, and Billy Barratt is Tom Riddle. The central trio remains Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

Why Season 2 is moving ahead before Season 1 premieres

The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will consist of eight episodes and premiere at Christmas 2026 on HBO and HBO Max where the service is available. Even so, the team is already developing the next installment. The official franchise site says production periods will overlap to limit the gap between seasons and account for the young cast growing older.

Series lead Francesca Gardiner will be joined by Jon Brown as co-showrunner for Season 2. Production on the new season is scheduled to begin in the Northern Hemisphere autumn, before the first season reaches viewers. That structure indicates an effort to preserve continuity in the cast, sets, and timeline, but it does not establish a release window.

The scale of the adaptation also helps explain the early planning. Each season covers one book and involves a large group of students, teachers, families, creatures, and recurring locations. Preparing Chamber of Secrets while Philosopher’s Stone is still unreleased can reduce downtime between production stages, although it does not remove the need for post-production, visual effects, or possible adjustments after the audience response.

For now, the confirmed facts are the newly announced cast, the book being adapted, and the advance in production. HBO has not disclosed an episode count, premiere date, or trailer for the second season. Any more specific timetable remains speculation.
